I was going to write about baking temperatures today, but that sounds so trivial. How can I write about bagels, or even bake bagels, when there is so much racial injustice going on right now as I type? I have started thinking… Would I be able to deliver bagels, sometimes walking all around people’s homes to see if it is the right house, if I were black? Would I be asked to go into random peoples houses and stick bagels on their counters if I were black? These are white privileges I have taken for granted — I’ve never even thought about this until now. Moving forward, no matter what passions I follow, bagel-baking or otherwise, I will always try to improve myself and the world.
